First Things First
The first day of school meant more than the much anticipated return after summer vacation and reunion with friends—it was a day to make a fashion statement. Just because we don’t have classmates to impress, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t dress to impress for all the “firsts” in our life. From a smart first day of work outfit to a flirty first date dress, get a little inspiration for back-to-school shopping as a grown-up.
First Day of Work
It’s the first day at your first “big kid” job after college, and you should be bold but not over the top. Match a fun, patterned top with a basic, solid bottom. Play with the silhouette—it doesn’t have to be a pencil skirt! Opt for low heels or flats that add a pop of color (without clashing with the rest of your outfit), and accessorize simply with minimal jewelry.
First Date
Make a statement with a bold primary color in an outfit that shows off your best feature—whatever that may be. Don’t let high heels make you even more nervous than you already are, and match your outfit with a clutch or over the shoulder bag for simplicity. Opt for a statement necklace and a nude lip. That way, things don’t get too messy at the end of the night (if you catch my drift).
First Netflix and Chill
In the modern world of dating, we all know what this text message means. If you invited your partner over to your place, relax. Put on something comfy, light a candle, and crack open that laptop because it’ll at least be fun to pretend you’re going to binge-watch a new series, right?
First Big Presentation
Don’t panic before your first big presentation at your company. Even though you know your "stuff" inside and out, looking your best on the big day will make you feel more confident. Dress up with a matching blazer and pencil skirt for a professional base. Keep your top conservative, but add a flattering pop of color. Match your shoes to your shirt and throw on your favorite accessory--watch, bracelet, or necklace. Use the extra sparkle to shine in front of your coworkers!
