How To Boil Water: TGIT
Tomorrow, Olivia Pope, Annaleise Keating, and Meredith Grey are returning to our screens and our lives. Thank goodness it's Thursday. We’ve had to suffer through too many months without our weekly dose of Shonda drama, but worry and wonder no longer. It’s time to gather your girlfriends, uncork your red wine, pop your popcorn, and log back in to Twitter so you can start live tweeting all of the twists and turns in Shonda Land.
And with the amount of feels Shonda leaves me with every week, I’m always in need of a large amount of wine and snacks to drown my worries in. When will Fitz and Oliva ever be together? Popcorn, popcorn, popcorn. Who really killed Sam? Chocolate ice cream and cookie dough. Why did Derek have to die? Wine.
We all know Olivia Pope would be disappointed if we didn’t include a fancy bottle of red wine (although let’s be real, an approximately $6 bottle of wine is considered fancy on my budget) and who wants to disappoint Oliva Pope? And you can’t forget the popcorn. Whether you’re a stove top popcorn girl, or you like to pour on buckets of movie-theater butter, it’s a must have for any good TGIT girls night. Powerful leading ladies call for impressive snacks, so step it up a notch from plain wine and popcorn and impress your guests with these deceptively simple variations.
Truffle oil classes basic stove-top popcorn up quite a bit, but it's not too stuffy to share a place on the sofa with your cheap wine. Know when to splurge and save, we say.
16 cups of hot stove-top popcorn
6 tablespoons of melted butter
1 ½ tablespoons of truffle oil
¼ cup of grated parmesan
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon of pepper
Toss all ingredients together and serve.
Chocolate Toffee Popcorn
A little salty and a whole lotta sweet. Just like our leading ladies.
One bag sweet & salty kettle corn
½ cup of chocolate candy melts
Dark Chocolate Almost Laceys (I found mine at World Market)
Spread kettle corn out on a large platter, drizzle melted chocolate candies over the popcorn, and crush Laceys over all of it. Let the chocolate harden over the popcorn, then toss all together.
Red Wine Sangria
Olivia Pope would be proud.
2 bottles red wine
1 cup brandy
½ cup triple sec
1 cup orange juice
1 cup pomegranate juice
½ cup simple syrup
1 orange sliced
1 apple sliced
1 cup blackberries
½ cup pomegranate seeds
Mix together all ingredients and let stand in a sealed container overnight.
Red Wine Berry Spritzer
Thank goodness it's Thirsty Thursday.
1 part red wine
3 parts La Croix Mixed Berry Sparkling Water
Frozen Blueberries or Raspberries
Mix and serve to your very impressed guests.
